  • Linda I am so glad we decided to go to Hawaii, it is so beautiful.
  • I know Joe it was a great decision. But, did you know there is a dispute in Mauna Kea where astronomers want to build a Thirty-meter Telescope (TMT) on Native Hawaiians sacred land?
  • REALLY???? No wonder why I have not seen many people. Lets go ask people for more information.
  • Hey how are you doing? We just came to Hawaii and we were wondering if you knew about the dispute between the Native Hawaiians and the astronomers?
  • Sounds like a Plan!
  • Hey I am glad you asked. They are actually protesting about the matter as we speak. I have lived here my whole life and Native Hawaiians have been practicing their religion on this land for as long as I can remember. Let's go ask them for more details
  • Hey, I have some visitors who want to learn more about the conflict and why you are protesting .
  • Hey welcome to Mauna Kea! I am glad that you asked. We are trying to let people know that Mauna Kea is a very sacred place for us. It is very important to our culture, the upper regions are the realms of the creator and the summit is a temple of the supreme being.
  • NO TELESCOPES!
  • Wow that is very unconstitutional. You should have the same right as any other religion. That is a burden on your religion
  • They are trying to erase our culture. Also trying to distance us from the burial ground of our ancestors.
  • NO TELESCOPES!
  • Have you guys tried to take this to court? Because you do know that you are entitled to equal protection under the establishment Clause
  • Yes we have. We also know about the establishment clause, but the government does not really know about our religion so they are ignoring it.
  • They think they can just do what they want with no consequences. So we will stand here if it has to cost our life.
  • NO TELESCOPES!
  • I am so sorry to hear that. I am glad I have heard you side of the story and I will make to pass it on to make sure they do not destroy your culture
  • We appreciate it so much! It means a lot to us. You do not understand how sacred Mauna Kea is. It will destroy our culture if it gets invaded by telescopes. Like a great saying "You give them an inch they take a mile." We don't that happening to our sacred land.
