- Jack is dragging an animal through the island.
- Ralph and Simon are building huts for the younger children to live in.
- Ralph starts to get irritated because none of the other boys will help him except Simon, and the huts begin to fall down before they can be completed.
- Instead of helping most of the boys play in the lagoon.
- Ralph points out the hunters have failed to catch a single pig so far. Ralph also starts to notice Jack and the hunters use the excuse of hunting to avoid any real work around the island.
- As Simon wonders off around the island he happens to find a spot that is surrounded by sunlight, birds, huge space, and butterflies.
