Ashoka was made the 3rd ruler of Mauryan Empire in 265 B.C.E. He was the grandson of founder of the empire.

We will conquer all these kingdoms.

After he was made ruler he conquered the last bit of India's other independent kingdoms.

I shall conquer this kingdom.

He went to conquer the last kingdom of India. But he had to go through a hard war to conquer Kalinga.

Fight!!!

AAAHH!!!

He had to fight to conquer Kalinga. They won the war but it led hundreds and thousands of Kilingans to be led to slavery and were masscared.

This is very interesting. I want to know more

He later saw a Buddhist monk, sitting under a tree meditating. He then learned that not having wars and peace was better. So he decided to became a Buddhist - a better person to himself and everyone else.

These shall be our new Buddhist principles for a better empire.

He then made Buddhist principles and had them on rocks and pillars everywhere throughout the kingdom. He had made a better and more peaceful empire.
