- As I walked to the back of the class, I realized I was the only black person there. I felt intimidated and confused. They all wore similar clothing and stared at me.
- Um, I don't know.. My mom did it. And thanks?
- During lunch I had two people come up to me. Emily and Rex. I was confused on some of the questions they asked
- Emily: Why is your hair like that? Can I touch it?Rex: It looks fluffy..Emily: It kinda reminds me of a sheep!
- MOMMM! I'M HOME
- When I finally got home, I just wanted to go to sleep but my mom had other plans.
- COME INTO THE KITCHEN
- HOW WAS SCHOOL? MOM IT WAS HORRIBLE. WHY WOULD YOU EVER SEND ME THERE?
- I felt so alone and intimidated.
- Well.. why did it matter?I thought you'd be okay.
- Well how was school?
- My mom and I had a heartfelt conversation. I realized being black came with a lot more than I hoped.
- Okay, but I am the only black girl in my class. They kept touching my hair and staring. I won't make any friends
- Touched your hair? No baby, don't let them treat you like a pet. They will underestimate you. You have to show them that you're not their stereotypical black girl!
- Look Quinn, your last school was too much. There was always a problem and honestly the education wasn't all that good. I sent you to this new school because you deserve a better education.
- The next day I decided to not let anyone touch my hair or treat me like their pet.
- Hey, can i touch your hair again?
- NO! I am not your PET!
