Two different species of fox live in the same habitat located in North America.
The climate in North America changes from warm temperature to snowing and cold temperatures in the winter.
During the winter, predators of foxes, such as an eagle, are able to spot dark-colored foxes better than light-color foxes, as white foxes are able to blend in with the snow during the winter.
The eagle was able to spot the brown fox easier than the white fox, therefore, brown foxes are eaten more often than white foxes. White foxes are able to escape being eaten by predators through camouflaging with the snow. As a result, the population of light-colored foxes decreases while the number of dark-colored foxes remain about the same.
The surviving fox population are able to mate and reproduce, therefore, passing on their traits.
Because less of the white fox population is hunted, more live to reproduce, therefore, passing on more traits to offspring. The white fox population continues to grow while the dark fox population is on the verge of extinction.
Life here is good!
BRRR! Oh no, it's getting cold!!
OH NO! An eagle! I need to hide before it finds me!
HAH! This eagle will NEVER find me...
Phew! I think I'm safe! The eagle can't tell the difference between me and the snow!
AHHH, he found me!
Glad we were able to escape that eagle! I love you!!
I love you!
I guess this is the end of our species...
