Storyboard Text

  • "vacant eye-like windows”.
  • Paragraph 1, sentence 4Poe gives the house human like view by adding that the windows look like vacant eyes which can add to the mood of the scene.
  • Personification
  • " an atmosphere which had no affinity with the air of heaven, but which had reeked up from the decaying trees, and the gray wall, and the silent tarn a pestilent and mystic vapor, dull, sluggish, faintly dicernible,and leadend hued. 
  • Symbolism
  • Poe uses symbolism by refering to the looks of the house and explaining how it looks to symbolize how the house shows the madness of the Ushers.  line 55
  • " I must perish in this bouden slave"
  • Foreshadowing
  • In the story Poe makes Usher one of the main characters in the story foreshadow that he would later die in the house because it was bound this leaves readers in curiosity and suspense.

  • The quote describes the house but also the Usher family as well, the description can show how the family and house are collapsing.

  • paragraph 1 sentence 1 Poe uses dialougue and setting to create mental mages in the readers head to form ideas and vision.

  • " nervous agitation, paranoia,, and depression"
  • The quote are from different points in the story but they both reveal suspense in the story which impulses the story into a gloomy and dark mood and engages the reader to see what happens next.
