Storyboard Text

  • Man vs. Man
  • Why did he smile? Why did he turn back?
  • Man vs. Nature
  • I will dig up this soft Earth to make a trap.
  • Man vs. Self
  • "I will not lose my nerve. I will not."
  • The man vs. man conflict comes from the battle between the protagonist, Rainsford, and the antagonist, Zaroff. Zaroff is trying to kill Rainsford, while Rainsford is trying to survive from Zaroff. This conflict is important to the story because it is the main driver of the plot. Without the battle, the story would have lost almost every element of plot besides exposition.
  • The man vs. nature conflict comes from Rainsford using the materials on the island to save his life. The only thing Rainsford has is a knife and nature. This conflict is important to the story because it creates tension to keep the story interesting. If Rainsford would've had everything handed to him and not have used nature, it would've made for a less intense, suspenseful story.
  • The man vs. self conflict is shown through Rainsford's constant battle with staying calm. It's extremely stressful for him to know that he is fighting for his life. This internal conflict is important because it develops Rainsford's character. The reader can see how brave he is by the way he keeps calm in the most intense of situations.
