Storyboard Text

  • In this scene, Ha's so excited to see papaya on her tree. Ha's overjoyed because she has been waiting forever for papaya. This scene is important because Ha is the happiest she's ever been in the entire book and it truly shows that you can be happy over the littlest thing.

  • In this scene, Ha wakes up super early for new years to be the first one to bless their house with her feet. Ha felt that she could do anything a boy can do and it should matter if she is a girl. This scene is important because she was so confident in this moment yet later on in the book she believes everything was her fault because she touched the floor with her feet.
  • In this scene, Ha's brother Khoi has to get rid of his dead chick he brought from home to the boat. Ha was trying to comfort her brother while he is saying his last goodbye before he throws the chick off the boat. Ha could feel his pain for his chick she was understanding and very suportive.
  • In this scene , Ha is getting bullied by the white kids at school they pull her hair and laugh at her. Ha hated the way other kids treated her. She wanteed to be treated kindly she sooned relized that she must stay strong and sadly endure the hate.
  • In this scene Ha's family get a letter from their uncle saying their dad is dead. Everyone but Ha is heartbroken about this news. The reason she feels no compassion for his death is because she never knew him so she can't really be sad for him.
  • In thise scene Ha's family set up an alter on behave; of their dad. They have finally accepted their fathers death. Acceptance is the last part of the book they can move on from the past.
