Storyboard Text

  • The life of the Indigenous before the European settlement. The Indigenous hunt and gather food. They live in small communities.
  • The Indigenous respected the land and never took more than they needed. This included food, shelter, water, and weapons.
  • They would spend hours out of their day collecting food. The women and children usually collected the berries while the men would hunt for bigger more dangerous animals.
  • The rest of the day was taken up with spiritual celebration, education, or social gatherings.
  • Everything was done in a group. Whether it was survival or spiritual. The happiness of an individual depended on the happiness of the entire group.
  • The Indigenous peoples would go on seasonal walks called "walkabouts". The walk was a necessary tradition that ensured their survival throughout the summer and winter.
  • In the summer months, the groups would set up near the coast and lakes where water was abundant and ensure they stayed cool. In the winter months, they would head to nearby foothills to take shelter in caves and hunt animals that lived near.
