Polyphemus
Storyboard Text
- Odysseus and his men arrive at the island of Cyclops and venture out. They stumble across a cave and decide to go in.
- Polyphemus enters his cave and discovers the men. He questions the men about who they are and where they are from.
- Strangers. Who are you and where are you from?
- Odysseus quickly replied that him and his men needed help getting back home, hoping Polyphemus would practice xenia.
- We are from Troy, Achaeans, and we have wrecked our ship. We are looking for help!
- Instead of helping the men, Polyphemus eats two of them and then proceeds to take a nap. The men want to kill him but realize that they would die with the giant rock blocking the cave entrance. They wait till the morning to take action.
- Ooooh, that is... some... tasty... wine... sir...
- AHH! Nohbdy's tricked me! Nohbdy's ruined me!
- Odysseus offers Polyphemus wine and it causes him (Polyphemus) to pass out. The men take advantage of this time to poke his eye out with a large pointed stick.
- You ask my honorable name? I am Nohbdy. Everyone calls me Nohbdy.
- HAHAHA!
- The men escape by being tied to Polyphemus's ram and going unnoticed. Odysseus boasts about his escape once they are leaving the island and reveals his real name. Polyphemus calls out to his father, Poseidon, to potentially give Odysseus bad luck on his journey home.
- Let Odysseus never see his home and far be that day... with darkness in the years between.
- My name is not Nohbdy, I'm Odysseus you fool! How do you like that beating we gave you, you animal! 
- Theme Statement: Arrogance can cause conflict within people because it leads to unnecessary mistreatment.
