  • WHEN: January 12, 1850
  • Slaves are not citizens, Slaves are property, and have no rights
  • WHAT: Dred and Harriet Scott wanted to be free and the Supreme Court opposed
  • WHY: This event impacted the Civil War because both the South and North had different opinions on the decision. The North didn't like it because it would mean that slavery can be spread through all territories. The South did because it would expand slavery and bring there economic up.
