  • The Boys Gathering Wood
  • Almost too heavy.
  • Not for the two of us.
  • During the meeting, some little'uns urge forward a boy with a "mulberry-colored birthmark". He looks distraught and as if he's about to cry. Ralph explains that the little boy has seen some sort of monster in the woods. "A snake-thing."
  • Fire Gets Uncontrollable

  • The boys travel to below the side of the mountain where there is plenty of forest wood. They began tugging at dead wood to build a fire. Everyone of the boys added a quota, less or more, and the pile grew.
  • The fire didn't even create smoke in the end and was just flames. It soon got out of control and began to engulf the entire forest. The boy, especially the younger ones found this entertaining and delightful and began to cheer and dance.
  • You got your small fire alright...
  • Piggy soon realizes that the boy with the mulberry-colored birthmark is no where to be found. He blames Ralphs disregardance of him to be the cause of him being missing. It is inferred that the young boy died in the overwhelming forest fire.
  • That little'un that had a mark on his face, where is he now? I tell you I don't see him.
