- Oh my god is that gold?!
- There is gold in California! I think i should go across the world to get some fortune. Maybe we can become rich!
- Okay, but just be careful.
- Get ready! Were going to start looking for gold soon.
- Okay, got it!
- A carpenter named James Marshall spotted gold in a near by river in Northern California. In his own words James Marshall said, " I reached my hand down and picked it up," later he wrote, "It made my heart thump, for i felt certain it was gold. After this the rumor spread out that there was gold in California.
- In 1849, thousands of people from around the world were trying to go to California to search for some gold, to get rich faster. Places like Mexico, Europe, Australia, Mexico, and China. People from those Countries wanted to go to California and seek for gold. People that were from China and Australia had to be brave enough to cross the pacific ocean.
- People at mines camped for days at the area where the gold was spotted. Merchants made a lot of money by selling eggs and flour. They sold them at a high price and miners still bought them. The mines were rough, there was no police. People started fighting for what they claimed was theirs. They had all types of homicides. Peoples plan was to get gold and get rich, and then live the rest of their live happy. Most people got what they wanted but some people left with nothing.
