- Julia is feeling a little worried that she won't be able to make the soccer team at her school. She has been working really hard to practice, but what if she hasn't practiced enough?
- I hope that I can make the team.
- "What is bothering you this morning, Julia?" Julia's mother asks. At first Julia tells her mom that everything is just fine. "You know," her mother says, "sometimes our face says more than our words do. Is there something we can talk about?"
- "I'm worried that I won't make the soccer team, Mom" "I know that you have worked really hard to prepare for today's tryouts and I know that you'll do great!""You're right, Mom! And even if I don't make it this time, I can always try again."
- You can do it!
- Feeling much better after her talk with her mom at breakfast, Julia arrives at school. She saw the new boy in her class and remembered what her mom had told her about how sometimes someone's face can look different that they were feeling. She decided that she would talk to him in class today.
- "Hello, Braxton! My name is Julia and this is Sam and Christine. Would you like to eat lunch with us today?" "No," Braxton replies, "I don't want to hang out with you or your friends. I already have friends at my old school."Since everyone has been treating him like he didn't belong, Braxton decided to keep to himself even if it did make him sad.
- Should I say yes?
- While at lunch that day Julia tells Sam that she thinks they should invite Braxton to come to soccer tryouts that day. Even if she doesn't make the team, she could make a new friend.
- Are you sure?
- Definitely!
