After the King and Queen of Thebes heard from an oracle that their son would marry his mother and murder his father, they sent him to the mountains to be killed. But the shepard spares his life and gave him to someone else. This baby is Oedipus.

In the later future, Oedipus leaves Corinth and murders a man who he crosses on a two way passage. He does not know the man he murdered is his birth father.

When Oedipus arrives at Thebes, he solves the Sphinx's riddle as no one has ever done so before. This causes the sphinx to kill herself and saves everyone in Thebes.

After finding out the people who raised him were his adoptive parents from the shepard, he learns that the prophecy was right. He murdered his father and married his mother.

Jocasta decides to kill herself after the whole truth comes out about the prophecy of Oedipus.

After finding his mother/ wife has killed herself, he stabbed his eyes out and left Thebes forever.
