Storyboard Text

  • Can you explain them to me?
  • Today I learned about laws in class. It was super interesting.
  • Go on...
  • Sure. All bills will start out as an idea from citizens, congressmen, president, or special interest groups.
  • Hmm...
  • After enough people support the idea, then a local congressman can sponsor the idea and turn it into writing. The bill is then introduced to the House of Reps. or the Senate.
  • Alright...
  • The bill then will go into committees who have 3 options which are to kill, pass, or change the bill. After one of the houses approves the bill, then it goes to the other house where the process will repeat.
  • Fascinating...
  • If the other house makes any changes then it must be approved again, if not then the bill will move onto the President. The president can then veto, sign, or pocket veto the bill.
  • Wow, I learned so much. Thank you!
  • A pocket veto is when the president basically ignores the bill until it dies. The presidents veto can be overridden by a 2/3 vote from both houses. I hope this helps you understand laws & bills better.
