  • An Idea is Made

  • Bill is Assigned to a Committee
  • First, an idea for a law is proposed by anyone. Tom took a walk in the forest and noticed how little trees there were. He thought it would be a good idea if there was a law that helped deforestation.
  • The Bill is sent to House of Representatives

  • Second, the idea is introduced to a member of Congress.Tom talks to a member of congress to discuss and write a bill that would solve this problem.
  • The Bill is sent to the Senate

  • Next, the bill is assigned to a committee where they will debate and edit the bill so it will pass on the floor. The representative that Tom talked to now passes the bill along to the House of Representatives. The members of this Committee will edit and discuss Tom's bill.
  • The Bill is sent to the President
  • The bill is debated and voted on in the House of Representatives. (The bill can be passed through the House of Reps or Senate first.)After the committee debated and edited the bill, they pass it to the House of Reps. to be voted on.
  • After the bill is passed and voted on in the House of Reps., It is sent to the Senate where they will also need to discuss and vote.
  • Lastly, Once both of the houses have voted, the bill can now be passed onto to the president where he can sign and tun the bill into a law or veto (reject the law).In Tom's case, Mr President agreed that this law would help our country and he decides to pass this bill. Companies are only allowed to cut trees from certain areas to decrease deforestation
