Storyboard Text

  • The Doctors Visit
  • Susan is forced to go to her yearly doctors checkup much to her dismay and the doctor she was given introduces himself. They had just done some tests and she is awaiting her results even though she was sure that it was going to be the same as last years results.
  • The doctor looks worried and explains to Susan her results. As he explains Susan is beyond confused because of the medical terminology.
  • The doctor notices Susan's confused expression and explains again in layman's terms her results. Susan has a rare illness with no known cure. It is the first time the doctor has seen it in his long career so he is shocked as well.
  • Sender: DoctorReceiver: Susan
  • Communication Barriers:Educational: The Doctor is more educated and understands more terms than Susan.Physical Noise: Susan interrupts the Doctor by crying loudly.
  • Message: The Doctor tells Susan her test results.Channel: Mouths (Speaking)
  • Encoding: Susan already despises going to the doctor for checkups and doesn't believe that there is anything wrong with her.Decoding: Susan is in a state of shock. She denies everything and cries.
  • Feedback: Susan is shocked and starts crying while also being in denial.
  • Susan is left speechless. The doctor leaves her alone in her own thoughts. Susan has never thought of stuff like illnesses because she has stayed healthy her entire life and has no hereditary diseases.
  • Before the doctor is able to suggest ways to prevent the illness from getting worse, Susan finally seems to set in everything that has been said and breaks out of the trance she was in and starts to cry loudly and getting into denial with her circumstances. The doctor is left speechless.
  • Context/Situation: It is time for Susan's yearly doctor checkup. Susan detests going to the doctors because she believes it is overly repetitive to go every year. She also knew that she was healthy for her age so it only added to the reasons to not go but she decided to just get it out of the way. Her doctor introduces himself and goes over Susan's results and shockingly relays that she has a rare illness with no identifiable cure. Susan is shocked. Susan is beyond surprised and starts crying and going into denial.
