- Rufus flees to a gas station and sees an ad about LastFriend so he decides to download it. Once he finished making his profile, Mateo had reached out to him. Rufus video calls Mateo after they chat for a little and then decides to bike to Mateo's apartment
- DECKERS ARE YOU LONLEY??DOWNLOAD LAST FRIEND AND SPEND YOUR LAST DAY WITH SOMEONE NEW
- I'm coming to your place right now, I'm coming on my bike so I'll be there soon.
- Rufus's POV
- Mateo was shy and socially anxious so it was hard for him to finally get out of his shell. Rufus on the other hand is a foster kid with a troubled past. Even though they have many differences, this differences bring them together throughout the book.
- Hey... I'm Mateo.
- I know who you are but okay. Anyways, no time to waste, like literally. I saw on your profile that you had a bucket list, what do you want to do first.
- The time at which Mateo and Rufus meet up, 3:42AM
- Mateo wanted to go visit his dad at the hospital to say his goodbyes, hoping that he would wake up in time. Rufus agrees to go.
- My dad went in a coma 2 weeks ago, I want to leave a note and say goodbye to him. Will you come with me?
- Bet.
- Mateo and Rufus arrive at the hospital at 4:26 AM
- Can I have some time alone with him?
- Yes of course, take your time,
- I want to go visit my friend Lidia now, she's my best friend. Are you up for it?
- Yeah, I'm down.
- Mateo and Rufus arrive at Lidia's apartment at 6:20AM. Mateo talks to Lidia but didn't bring up the courage to tell her that he was a Decker. Lidia lost her husband a year ago after he received the Death-Cast call and Mateo didn't want her to freak out the way she did when she found out her husband was a decker.
- Can you wait out here? I just want some personal time with her, you know?
- Okay, I'll be waiting outside.
