Some happy Italian holiday traditions and memories with Grandma, that I wanted to share with you.

- Growing up in an Italian family where my Grandmother was the matriarch had me spending a lot of time with her. My best memories were holidays and the traditions associated with them. My Grandma would spend time teaching me about the ways of the old country in an effort to keep the traditions strong in our family.

- My absolute favorite holidays were Christmas Eve and Christmas. On Christmas Eve we would spend all day preparing our Feast of the Seven Fishes. There would be an appetizer plate of sushi, fish stew, calamari, seafood pasta with many different types of seafood, baked fish, grilled fish, and cod with olives. The baked and grilled fish always had the heads with eyeballs left on and that would give me such a thrill. At the end of the night I would get to sip on some of Grandmas red wine and I felt like such an important person.
- For Christmas I would always wake up to Grandmas coffee cake and a cup of hot cocoa. After we opened our presents we would be cooking and baking the rest of the day and chestnut roasting at the end of the night. For dinner we always had a red and a green lasagna and desserts were panettone, tiramisu, pizzelles, and cannoli’s.
- For New Years Eve we would make stuffed cabbage rolls and always included a snack board with figs, raisins, hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds, peanuts, and dates as they were supposed to bring in good luck through the new year.
- Easter was another big holiday where we would have a big feast. Grandma would always have me help her make the Easter bread first thing in the morning while we would sip coffee together and I loved putting the dyed eggs in the bread. We would have the traditional ham for dinner along with deviled eggs, asparagus, Brussel sprouts, pea salad (yuck), Easter ricotta cake, and lots of snacks and goodies.
- Grandma always had the family involved and helping and we loved to help her and be a part of it. These are part of the holidays Italian family tradition style.
