- you are now a Chancellor
- you are now an Archbishop, a step up from the Chancellor
- King Henry and Thomas Becket are good friends. King Henry makes Thomas the Councillor.
- (1162) Henry then made Thomas the Archbishop of Canterbury as the Kings Courts weren't doing very well, and the churches were being too soft for the kings liking.
- But Thomas took his job more seriously than the king thought he would. Thomas stopped getting drunk and wearing fancy clothes. Religion became very important to him.
- King Henry and Thomas started to argue as Thomas didn't punish the guilty as bad as Henry wanted, so Thomas fled to France and stayed there for 6 years!
- After 6 years, Thomas returned to King Henry and they tried to work together, but it soon went wrong and they started to argue again.
- King Henry ordered for four of his knights to rid him of Thomas, and the knights think that he means to kill Thomas. But that was not what he meant, he meant for Thomas to be sent away or punished.
