- A "gaunt, shadowy fellow" approached me when I was praying in the "overheated synagogue."
- "Are you a stranger?"
- Both Elijah and the Angel of Death sometimes appear as a beggar, so I don't know which one it is.
- Elijah
- He could be Elijah, or he could be the angel of Death. So should I be nice or stay away?
- Angel of Death
- No, I do not need anything, not even to sleep.
- I "had an urge" to do something for this man, so I asked him...
- Well do you need anything? Food or a bed to sleep in tonight?

- From this day forward, I make a point of looking out the window to "witness the arrival of night."
- Listen: To truly distinguish between day and night you must always look in a window, and "if you see a face, any face, then you can be sure that night has succeeded day," for night has a face.
