- Oh, mom's birthday is coming up. What should I get her? It has to be something special. I know, I'll go check at the mall and see what I find.
- I can't find anything for mom! It's all just too expensive and I want to get her something she will always cherish and can be really meaningful. Oh well, I have to go to Aleyla's to work on the project anyway. Maybe she could help.
- No, not really. I'm not that good with arts and all that. Besides, I don't know what I would make for her.
- Hey Aleyla. I want to get my mom a really good gift but I can't find anything. Do you have any ideas?
- Oh, don't worry. It's really easy. All we're doing is upcycling or recycling. We all know what that is. You can just use anything you have and turn it into something amazing. Come on, I'll show you!
- Oh nice, um let me think. Have you tried to make her something yourself?
- Look, there's a ton of ideas you can do. Like a hanging plant vase out of plastic soda bottles and yarn, decorated cans and jars for storing small items, shirts for bags, jeans for journal covers, you name it.
- Oh wow, really! I knew about recycling and reusing old items but I didn't know you could make so many wonderful things.
- Ok, I have an idea now! I just need to get my materials and print a copy of mom's favorite books and quotes. This was easy. I'm glad Aleyla helped. It feels good to know you are helping the environment. Now I have a great gift for mom while I am saving Mother Earth and money! This is a win-win-win! I hope mom will like it too.

- Yea, I know right! It also saves you money from having to buy more things. And that's not even the best part. Upcycling or recycling helps out the environment, remember. We are preventing the spread of waste and toxic pollution and saving the planet. Factories release harmful gases into the air when producing items, and people sometimes get lazy, and don't want to throw away their trash correctly after they're done and it ends up in our oceans or parks. This all impacts the animals, plants, air, land, oceans, us humans as well, and everything around us. So, if we put our old items into another use, we are helping stop all of these bad things affecting the planet, which is really important. It my seem small and useless, but it really does make the difference and a huge impact. So basically all you are saving money and the Earth while you are just making a birthday present for your mom! Cool isn't it?
