Storyboard Text

  • The Zone-tailed Hawk, which is black, and Harris's Hawk, which is brown, live in the mountains. The rabbits, which live in the forest, are the hawks' main food source.
  • Starting Population
  • Adaptation
  • Due to the overpopulation of the hawks, there are fewer rabbits meaning that some hawks will be unaffected. In addition, rabbits have adapted to run away when hawks approached.
  • Different Survival
  • Overproduction
  • As a consequence of the little food for the hawks, the hawks must compete for food in order to grow and reproduce.
  •
  • Variation and Competition
  • Differential Reproduction
  • Since the Zone-tailed Hawks have adapted through mimicry to look like turkey vultures than actual hawks, the Zone-tailed Hawks can get their food more easily compared to the Harris's Hawks.
  • Due to the Zone-tailed Hawk's adaptation to mimic the look of a turkey vulture, the Zone-tailed Hawks have an advantage over the Harris Hawks as they can more easily get food.
  • As a result of the Zone-tailed Hawk's advantage, the population of the Harris Hawks had decreased leaving the population of the Zone-tailed Hawks higher than the Harris Hawks' population.
