- Martin Luther was born on the 10 November, 1483 in Germany. He went to the university of Erfurt where he received a degree in grammar, logic, rhetorical and metaphysics as he wanted to become a lawyer. in 1505, he quit university to become a monk as he promised St Anne he would become a monk if she saved his life when he was stuck in a deadly storm.

- In the 1500s, the Catholic church were selling indulgences, and Martin Luther did not agree with this. Since no one understood why this was bad, he decided to translate the bible into his own language, German. Once people read Luthers translated bible, they understood/ learned why indulgences were bad.
- he is sentenced to excommunication immediately.

- On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther wrote 95 theses explaining why the catholic church was bad and how they could improve it. he then nailed his 95 theses to the door of the castle church in Wittenberg. When people read his 95 theses, a riot about why the catholic church was bad rose up, and the Protestant reformation began.
- we are the Council of Trent, the Roman council, here to patch up our mistakes and restore order in the Catholic community!
- The Protestant reformation had begun, where people were protesting and criticising the catholic church. the Church was frantically and desperately trying to keep their members. When they lost many of their members, the church started the counter reformation, where they brought in the Jesuits to teach ex-members about Jesus' story.
- In January 1521, the Pope Leo X excommunicated Martin. He was then asked to make an appearance at the diet of worms. When he refused to attend, this resulted in Emperor Charles V to declare Luther as an outlaw and a hertic.
- Due to Martin Luthers actions, the Church called in the Council of Trent, the Roman council of the catholic church. the council of Trent tried to get everything in control as things had gotten out of hand. The council of Trent successfully re-gained ex-members who tried to create new religions, back into the Catholic community.
