  • Colonial protest leader Dr. Joseph Warren walked through Boston. Looking for unusual activity by the British, then he saw troops marching out of the city.
  • At dawn of April 19, 1775British troops ran into minutemen
  • Warren told Paul Revere and William Dawes and they went to Lexington to spread the word "The British are coming".
  • April 19, 1775The battle of Lexington and Concord
  • Paul Revere got captured, but Dawes escaped. Another rider named Samuel Prescott carried the warning to Concord.
  • April 19, 1775A short battle that the British lost
  • The British marched and approached Lexington. They ran into about 70 minutemen. Led by Captain John Parker, the minutemen stood on the town common with muskets in hand.
  • A shot was fired and from there both sides let loose an exchange of bullets. When the shooting ended, there was minutemen dead. The British continued onto Concord. While some troops burned a few weapons they found.
  • The British took a heavy lost in a short battle. They began to make their way back to Boston. Along the way, colonists hid behind trees and fired on the soldiers. By the time redcoats reached Boston, at least 174 were wounded and 73 were dead.
