  • I made a path to easily navigate the west
  • Thank you for the fur
  • American mountain man knew a lot about the geographical location of the West. People in the East knew almost nothing.
  • Look at how much money I can make from all these beavers.
  • With their immense geographical knowledge, the mountain men carved paths into the wilderness, forging the way for merchants and settlers.
  • Where are all the beavers?
  • The mountain men may have established friendly ties with Native Americans because of the fur trade. This allowed the US to safely explore the West.
  • I was their friend. We always traded with eachother.
  • Animal pelts were the most profitable trade item and helped the US grow. American Mountain man was a source of commerce for the US. They connected the US to the international fur trade.
  • The high demand for beaver pelts caused their population to decline. The fashion had also switched from hides to silk.
  • Although the mountain men may have established friendly ties with Native Americans because of the fur trade, they also helped initiate a wave of migration that significantly affected Native American cultures in the West.
