- The Germans had forced the African groups into labor of planting crops they could not eat.
- However, a belief of the Maji Maji arose that said water could turn the German bullets into water.
- The Maji Maji Rebellion was a failure.
- Traditions passed down  by ancestry made them believe in the supernatural.
- After the failure, German troops had initiated a famine that would only kill even more African villagers.
- African villagers had began to resist the Germans, and used their spears and shields to fight.
- In 1905, African villagers attempted to storm an outpost as the war was ordained by God and their ancestry.
- Because of their lack of advanced technology, the Germans had mowed down and killed 75,000 African rebels with their machine guns.
