  • Not only was the land damaged, there was a severe lack of daily resources which included food, clean water and medical treatment as well. For five years after the 2004 tsunami hit, buildings had to be rebuilt. However, the cost of the reconstruction was nearly over $7.8 billion for nongovernment agencies alone.
