The war of 1812 was cause mainly by the impressment of Britishsailors who were being taken by the British. When James Madison took office he tried to make a new offer to stop trading with the enemy and the British agreed but continued stealing British sailors. Madison tried to believethe Britishbut thought about going against what George Washingtonsaid about isolationism.

As settlers were trying to settle intoOhioandMississippi they were making the Indiansretreat from their home. One day a Indianchief and his brother tried to get all the Indiansin Mississippi to unite. The Indianagovernorfought back and won. later they found out that the Indianshad Britishguns.

in 1814 another British army invaded WashingtonD.C. They set ablaze multiple public homes. They also set fire to the capitol and the white house. The president had to flee, scared for his life.

In September, 1813, a Americancommander who goes by the name, OliverhazardPerry along with his crew successfullycaptured 6 Britishships on lake Erie. In doing so, it enabled William Henry Harrison to get into Canadaand capturea Britishmajor in battle. Here comes December and the British force the Americansback over the border.

A Britishfleet had just given up to the U.S. after the battle of lakeChamplain. The Britishwould send a note to the Britishcommanders who were fighting in the U.S. but it did not get there in time. new Orleanswas defended general Jacksonand a militia consisting of 7,000 troops with a few AfricanAmericans, Indians, and pirates.2 weeks earlier a treaty was signedbut did not reach new Orleansin time.

After the war was done both sides thought they hadsucceeded. the treaty ofGhentresolved none of the issues that led to war instead impressment and ship seizuresfaded away. The war of 1812 had important effects such as it weakened Indianresistance in the northwest territory. Second it made people in the U.S. think it was the second war to declare independence. Finally, the war had political effects such as the fed. party was so hurt, it would fade away.
