  • Sophia's First Day of School
  • Hi! My name is Sophia and it is my first day of school.
  • First hour: Ela
  • Greetings class. Please place all phones in the assigned pockets and check the seating chart for your spot.
  • Second Hour: Biology
  • I don't really care about phones everyone, but please don't let me see you not paying attention or I wil have to confiscate it
  • Since this is my first day at Francis Howell High School, I would like to walk my schedule and meet all my teachers!
  • Third Hour: History
  • Kids and their tech these days, always glued to those phones. There will be no usage of tech in this class!
  • As I am walking into class, my teacher, Mrs. Bankman, stopped me before I could sit at the front desk. She told me that I had to put my phone into a pocket and sit in an assigned seat. This reminds me of a Command Economy- where resources are owned and controlled by the government. In this case, Mrs. Bankman is controlling the resources we are allowed in class and our location in the class.
  • Fourth and Final Hour: Gym
  • Hey class. You can choose between hanging out, basketball, or kickball. Have fun!
  • I was expecting to walk into this class with phone pockets too, but I couldn't find one. My teacher, Mr. Jobs, told us to keep our phones with us but out of sight. He also wanted us to sit where we thought we would benefit the most learning experience. This reminded me of a Mixed Economy- combined elements of command and market economies. The freedom we had with keeping our phones on us while still having them put away felt like I at least had a small say in where I could put my phone.
  • The End
  • At this point, I didn't know what to expect going into this class since my last one was kind of leinient. This time my teacher said that back in her day they used paper pencil and didn't have phones, so we weren't allowed any technology in her class. This reminded me of a Traditional economy- goods and services are produced the way that they have always been. Having a class structure identical to how they did it back in the day sounded very traditional to me.
  • My day has been so confusing, everyone has such a different way of teaching. My coach, Mrs. Kayla, seems really nice though. She allowed us to use our phones whenever we want! We even get to pick what we get to play every day! This reminds me of a Market Economy- resources are owned and controlled by the people of the country. Or in this case, my class!
  • Overall, my first day of school was pretty good. My favorite class, by far, is gym class because I have the most freedom in that class! Can't wait to come back tommorow
  • Bye! See you tommorow!
