Storyboard Text

  • It's a lovely day here in the Indus Valley right next to the Indus River. Today, the Indus Valley is modern day Afghanistan. The year is 2000 BCE and we have ruled for 700 years so far.
  • As you can see, our houses are stacked on top of each other to save space. We often sleep on the roof at night because they are flat and keep us cool at night.
  • In between our homes, we have gutters where we pour out our waste and unneeded water. It is important to stay clean because we have a lot of people living here, so we have to be sanitary so everyone does not get sick.
  • Some of the religious rituals we do here include the Great Bath. We rinse ourselves in the river, as it is a sign of staying pure.
  • Here in the trading courtyard, we don't only use trade, but we also use seals. Our seals have symbols on them and we think they are important because our gods are engraved on them, and they are used as price tags often here to indicate who owns the items.
  • Speaking of trade, people use trade quite a lot here in the Indus Valley. It is important because this is how we get the food and materials we need to survive. People from different parts of our continent come as well, and we trade goods like lead and copper.
