It all started in 1857 where Indian troops called sepoys where in service of the British east Indian company. The British were already taking part in their lifestyle as they would go against the Hindusculture by doing things such as replacing their aristocracy.

The war broke out in the Bengal army because of the introduction of the new Enfield rifle. when they had to load the rifle they had to bite off with their teeth the end of the cartridges which had wax on it, the rumourwas that the wax that was on the cartridges was actually pig and cow fat and doing that was an insult to them since it was against their religion.
