Hey My name is Alexander Fleming I am a physician and microbiologist and today I'm going to tell you a little about me and show you my home. right next to me is my beautiful wife.
Hello my name is Amelia Fleming I'm a Greek physician, bacteriologist, human rights activist and politician.
A little background about me I studied in St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in the University of London. I was then dispatched to the army and served in the medical corps. I then came back and studied microbes and bacteria.
I studied medicine, and particularly bacteriology, at the University of Athens. From 1938 to 1944 I worked as a bacteriologist at Athens City Hospital. Lets go check out our lab and show you guys around our home
This is our lab here we conduct experiments and research on microbes and bacteria. Alexander will tell you more about it and the breakthrough he made in this exact lab.
This exact lab is were I discovered world's first broadly effective antibiotic substance, which I named penicillin.
Here I was growing lots of bacteria on agar plates. I saw that lots of my plates had mold growing on them. I then noticed a clear ring in the jelly around some of the spots of mold. I realized that something killed the bacteria covering the jelly. I then thought too myself maybe that same thing that killed the bacteria can kill bacteria on open wounds on human beings.
Now let my wife tell you fellow individuals about her accomplishments.
Thank you Alexander. I wrote A Piece of Truth, a personal account of my imprisonment and the trial of Alexandros Panagoulis. I than returned to Greece in 1974 and was elected to the Greek Parliament 3 times. I also campaigned for human rights working with Amnesty International and other organizations. All of that and writing and producing lab reports.
Thank you so much for joining us and listening to a little about us and what we did.
thank you for listening and it goes to show how the little things in life can become the biggest thing in your life. Bye!!
