  • Vast Traveler
  • Like he announces in an act of pride to Polyphemus, Odysseus was born to Laertes, the king of Ithaca, and therefore was a prince at birth, eventually becoming king himeself. (Homer 1122).
  • Unmatched Warrior
  • While Odysseus does not possess any physical superpowers so to say, he does have one distinct special power that sets him apart from other heroes: his wit. He is typically seen as a very wise person, and this gives him an edge against his foes. This is illustrated when he tricks the cyclops Polyphemus. (Homer 1118).
  • Battles Supernatural Forces
  • Odysseus has traveled to many different places since his depature of Troy. He raides the city of the Cicones, lands on the island of the Lotus Easters and on the Cyclopes' island and then on Ogygia, Calypso's isle. (Homer 1112).
  • Odysseus is known under the epiphet of "the raider of cities," as he has plundered many, leaving them in ruins and killing a plethora of the inhabitors of the areas that stood in his way, like the the Cicones people. This illustrates how good a warrior he is. (Homer 1120).
  • Odysseus and his crew's fate becomes intertwined with that of the cyclops Polyphemus, son of Poseidon, the god of the seas. They battle with him, eventually blinding Polyphemus in order to make their escape from his homeland. (Homer 1122).
