Storyboard Text

  • Adaptation: The Change Begins
  • Overproduction: The Horror!
  • Too many of us right? Well, in nature, creatures tend to produce more off springs than necessary to survive. This overproduction is the first step in natural selection.
  • Natural Selection: Continuing the Legacy
  • Competition: The Fight!
  • Resources, like food, are limited since there are so many of us. We have no choice but to fight for what we want.
  • "Back off! ,That cricket is mine (snarled the Toucan). Toucan (Two-can) play that game".
  • Variation: Understanding the Enemy
  • Speciation: The Possibilities
  • My beak helps me get fruits as well as blend in. This is a trait I shall pass to my offspring.
  • My beak also helps me blend into the canopy, but not as well. Predators can see me easily as well, so toucans like me have to be careful. This is something I shall pass.
  • My short beak does not help me keep as warm, when I tuck it into my wings. I am not well suited to this environment.
  • My long beak helps keep me warm (thermal regulation), when I tuck it into my wings. This helps to have a better chance of survival.
  • Of course we were not always like this. Over the course of several years, we have evolved (changed) and adapted to our surroundings . Favorable traits that I inherit , prove that I am more likely to survive and produce off springs. In doing so, I shall pass my traits to the next generation. This is called natural selection.
  • This is also referred to as "survival of the fittest".It means that the strongest tend to survive longer while the weaker don't.
  • As the traits are continued being passed down to generation, it opens a new window; a possibility on how many new species can form. The unfavorable traits disappear as well. Think how many different types of toucans are there!
