- Come on now, boy, it’s seven thirty!
- The morning
- Leave the boy alone
- I wouldn't have to nag at Travis if the neighbors would keep it down
- Meet the family
- Mornin!
- Travis is fast asleep because he didn't get much sleep last night because of the loud neighbors in the apartments. Mama is making him get ready for school.
- Non Believer
- Mama is arguing with Walter Lee because the Travis is sleeping on the couch instead of an actual bed. On top of all that the neighbors in the apartment are keeping Travis up
- The check
- But ma, you aint even look at it
- The Younger family are the main characters of the book, Travis, Beneatha, Walter,Lena, and Ruth younger. The main conflict of act 1 is the check that comes in for the grandma.
- Ruth passes out
- Mama punishes Beneatha for saying she doesn't believe in god but mama slaps her and makes her repeat, "In my house, there is still god".
- There is still god
- Repeat after me. In my house there is still god
- Walter Lee and Ma are arguing about if Walter should invest in a liquor store.
- There ain't going to be no investing in no liquor stores.
- Ruth passes out from being pregnant and not telling anyone
- Ruth!
