Storyboard Text

  • Sperm cells are the male sex cells. Sperm is produced in the testes of the male reproductive system. So is testosterone, the male hormone. Sperm exits the body through the urethra. This process is called ejaculation.
  • Eggs are the female sex cell. Eggs are produced in the ovaries of the female reproductive system. So is estrogen, the female hormone. During ovulation, an ovary sends one egg into the fallopian tubes to be fertilized. If it is not fertilized in two weeks, the egg leaves the body through a women's menstrual cycle.
  • During fertilization, sperm swims through the fallopian tubes and merges with an egg cell to create a zygote. It eventually travels to the uterus while also developing into a solid ball of cells called a morula.
  • When the morula finally makes it into the uterus, more cellular division results in a blastocyst which then implants itself into the lining of the uterus. The blastocyst is a ball of cells with a large cavity full of fluid.
  • During the first trimester, major organs and structures form, ears eyelids, and teeth buds form and the heart begin to beat. This is also the worst time to consume or use drugs and alcohol.
  • During the second trimester, hair and nails form. Sex organs also form so the sex of the baby can be determined at this stage.
