Storyboard Text

  • On March of 1096, Peter the Hermit called on farmers and peasants to free Jerusalem. This began the Crusades, a series of Military campaigns.

  • lets go take back the Holy Land, because there is nothing better than some good ol' bloodshed
  • In 1095, Pope Urban II called for a crusade to free the Holy Land. He called for 'soldiers of Christ'. to defend Constantinople and liberate Jerusalem from the Turkish. Many people answered the call.
  • I CALL ON THE SOLDIERS OF CHRIST!
  • CHAARRGGEEEE
  • The first Crusade had 150,000 people, many of them were peasants and farmers. Many of them were killed before they even got there. More better armies then followed. Despite setbacks, the crusade was a success. They won because of the element of surprise. The 2nd Crusade had failed, and the 3rd Crusade ended in a truce. But Jerusalem was still in Muslim hands. The 4th Crusade though, was embarrassing. To fund their campaign, they looted Christian cities.
  • When they looted Constantinople, they smashed icons, stole relics and attacked people.
  • LOOT! BURN!
  • Jews were not only the victims of persecution. Other targets were groups of Christians that followed heresy. Heretics were first excommunicated. Then it got more serious. They later were massacred. Speaking about heresy, Templar leaders were accused of heresy, tortured, then burned alive.
  • YOU SHALL BE BURNED ALIVE FOR HERESY!
  • The Crusades bought wealth and trade to Euro port cities. They were eager to supply the needs of the crusader states in the Holy Land. The crusader states were surrounded by hostile states, and relied on goods shipped from Europe.
