  • What is this?! Why is it so hard?!
  • Its a caste for your broken arm made out of Plaster of Paris.
  • It is essentially Gypsum but with 3/4th its water of crystallization per formula unit
  • Water of what?
  • Let me explain
  • A fixed number of water molecules present in one formula unit of a salt is called the water of crystallization of that salt.
  • Example
  • CaSO4
  • 393 K
  • POP
  • These water molecules are bound by weak electro static forces and change some properties of the salts
  • CuSO4
  • Example
  • 393 K
  • CuSO4. 5H2O
