Storyboard Text

  • The Indus River valley civilization began nearly 5000 years ago and was located near the Indus River In what is now known as Pakistan and northern India.
  • Hello my name is Gaurav and I live in Harappan city over there.
  • The houses are built around an inner courtyard and have pillared halls, bathrooms, paved floors, kitchen, well, etc.
  • This is my beatiful city.
  • Our houses are made out of baked mud brick and have one or two storey houses
  • My city has also a very good drainage system.
  • Every house has its own drainage and soak pit connected to the public drainage.
  • Laid brick channels flow throught every street, they are covered and have manholes at intervals for cleaning and clearing purposes.
  • There are lamp post in intervals and the streets can be 3,9m to 10,3m.
  • This city has a wall. But we are pacific and have no army.
  • The streets are straight and cut each other at right angles.
  • The streets and roads divide the city into regular blocks
  • We also tradeterracotta pots, beads, gold, silver, colored gems like turquoise and lapis lazuli, metals, flints, seashells and pearls.
  • We use irrigation systems so we can farm better.
  • We farm, trade and consume crops such as wheat, barley, peas, lentils, linseed, mustard seed, millet, sesame and rice
  • Flat roofs were strong enough to walk on. Families used them as an extra room. It was a cool place to sleep on a hot night and somewhere you could sit with friends.
  • People are born into social classes that can’t be changed: Brahmins,Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudras
  • Most people have small homes which are also used as workshops. There is not much space to relax.
  • It is very hot so people spent a lot of time outside.
  • But children also played.Children could play in the courtyards of houses, and probably on the flat roofs.
  • Children worked hard , even small children helped their families with daily tasks.
  • Children might have playedboard gameswith counters and dice
