- Curly's wife is the bosses sons wife. She wishes she had someone on the farm to talk to and have a relationship with. Her husband doesn't treat her right and the men on the ranch are not allowed to talk to her because they could get in trouble. She wishes she would have been in pictures so she had people to talk to.
- My husband is no good to me and none of these men on the farm treat me with respect. I should be in pictures not wasting my life on this!
- There ain't no need for anyone to kill my dog. He don't stink and only has a little time left let him live his life out. once he is gone I have no one.
- Candy is the old one-handed swamper in the book, He has his old dog with him that he has had since he was a puppy. When that dog is killed he has no one else. With his old age, the ranch will not keep him much longer when he isn't able to help do things. He has never had a ranch that is his own. He wishes he had the relationship and the companionship George and Lennie share.
- You shouldn't be in my space. I ain't allowed in yours so that mean you shouldn't be in mine.
- Crook is the colored stable buck, In the novel he is prohibited from being in the other bunkhouse due to his race. He is forced to stay in the barn with the other animals but no other men. He rarely talks to any of the ranch hands and has no one to talk to. There are tons of workers on the farm, but he is still very alone.
