Storyboard Text

  • The Mt Tambora eruption
  • Mt. Tambora is a supervolcano that is located in West Tenggara Indonesia.
  • In 1815 April Mt.Tambora exploded with a massive volcanic erupted releasing 150km³ worth of sulfer oxide and volcanic ash into the inland Indonesian atmosphere.
  • The volcanic ash made it unable for the crops to grow or animals to live including humans. The volcanic ash did not allow sun light to pass through and so it changed the climate itself.
  • Effects on Biosphere
  • The effects of this disaster lasted for 3 years and the first year out of 3 was named "the year with no summer". This was due to cold temperatures lasting for more than it should.
  • Effects on Atmosphere
  • The Volcano was located inland, west Indonesia, so it had very little affect on the hydrosphere. However the seismic activity caused multiple tsunamis that affected neighbouring islands
  • Effects on Hydrosphere
  • This event that occurred about 180 years ago had a massive impact on our world. It was able to alter the climate and weather completely around the whole world, illustrating how changes to the atmosphere can occur even without human interference.
