  • Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov was born in April 1870 in Russia at Ulyanovsk. He studied laws at Kazan Imperial University. He has been expelled from the university but this did not prevent him from carrying on his studies.
  • The Red Terror
  • In 1897, he was arrested for sedition and exiled in Siberia for three years. In 1903, after his exile he took a key role in the RSDLP ideological split, leading the Bolshevik faction against Julius Martov's Mensheviks. In 1905, he campaigned in order to transform the FWW into a social revolution. His aim was to overthrow the capitalism and replaced it with the socialism.
  • The new economy policy
  • He returned to Russia after the revolution in February and the Bolshevik overthrew the provisional government. He centralized power in the new Communist Party, redistributed land and nationalized banks. Then, he withdrew from the First World War.
  • The end of Lenin’s government
  • Opponents were suppressed in the Red Terror, Many people were killed . In fact, His administration defeated right and left-wing anti-Bolshevik armies in the Russian Civil War from 1917 to 1922 and oversaw the Polish–Soviet War of 1919–1921.
  • The negative impact of the wars led popular uprisings, thus in 1921 he created the new economic policy in order to encourage the economic growth.
  • His health started to fail and, Lenin died in Gorki, in 1924 with Joseph Stalin succeeding him as the pre-eminent figure in the Soviet government.
