  • Olivia...
  • Act 1, Scene 1
  • My lord, Lady Olivia does not return your love, nor does she listen to your messages. She is in mourning for her brother who just died recently and she vowed that no one is to see her face for 7 years. She refuses to marry anyone until then.
  • Act 1, Scene 2
  • Hmmm... I don't know.
  • Your brother, Sebastian, might still be alive. The last time I saw him, he was trying to stay afloat by tying himself to a broken mast.
  • Duke Orsino is in love with Lady Olivia.
  • Act 1, Scene 2
  • I want to disguise myself as a man and serve Duke Orsino. Can you help me
  • Orsino's servant, Valentine, tells him that Olivia is in mourning for her brother and does not even return his love.
  • Act 1, Scene 3
  • Lady Olivia is not impressed with your drinking, and I am not a fan of your friend over here. 
  • The captain found and rescued Viola, however, she is concerned about her brother. The captain tells Viola that there is hope that he could still be alive, but she does not know if it is worth getting her hopes up.
  • Act 1, Scene 3
  • I don't think that Olivia likes me. She is definitely going to marry Orsino. 
  • Viola tells the captain that she wants to become a servant in Lady Olivia's house and hide away from the world like Olivia was doing, but he tells her that Olivia refuses to see any visitors. So she tells him about her plans of disguising herself as a young man to serve Duke Orsino instead. The captain agrees to help her after she says that she will pay him well.
  • I will pay you well.
  • Ummmm...
  • okay, sure.
  • Maria (Olivia's servant) warns Sir Toby Belch (Olivia's uncle) that Olivia is annoyed with his drinking. Maria also tells him that she thinks his friend, Sir Andrew Aguecheeck, is foolish, but Sir Toby argues that he is a perfect match for Olivia because he is rich and skillful in music and languages.
  • Sir Andrew tells Sir Toby that he does not think that Olivia likes him and that she will choose Orsino over him. Discouraged, he plans to leave the next morning, but Sir Toby convinces him to stay by flattering him.
  • No, don't worry about that. She would never marry anyone above her degree.
