- Brian Robertson, a  thirteen year old son of divorced parents was on the way to visit his father in Canada in a single engine plane with a pilot, Jake, Jake was quiet at first but him and Brian grew to to talk and Jake allowed him to control the plane .
- Jake had a heart attack mid-flight and the plane crashed and Brian found himself controlling the plain but soon lost control and crashed in a wood with a lake nearby. 
- Before Brian's flight , his mother had given him a hatchet.He went through many troubles but the hatchet helped a lot and he made fire and small shelter.
- One night Brian was sleeping and a tornado hitthat tore everything apart that swooped apart of the plane.
- The next day, using his hatchet, Brian broke his way into the plane to get some goods and found a bag full of food and materials he tried one last time messing with the transmitter to communicate with someone but no answer. 
- Almost immediately after messing with the radio transmitter, a plane landed near Brian's shelter. A man hopped out and recognized that Brian was the kid that they had quit looking for almost two months ago. The pilot then brought Brian back to civilization.When the pilot rescued Brian he had been alone in the wild for fifty-four days. During that time he had lost seventeen percent of his body weight. The press made much of Brian but the furor died within a few months. The experience of being out in the wilderness changed Brian's life forever.
