- Hi, my name is Silvey Chan and here is my family!
- Hi, my name is Silvey.
- Hi, my name is Sunny!
- Silvey introduces her and her family, the people in her family are her ba, ma, Ah Yeh, Dai Gor, Day-Day, Soong, Chuen and Silvey. She's a twelve year old girl who lives at 45 Greys Avenue, Auckland, New Zealand. One fact about her is that her real name isn't Silvey and her real name is Ngun Bo which means 'Silver Treasure' in english.
- A boy walked into there shop and greeted Silvey, his name was Sun Tong but he let Silvey call him Sunny. He looked around the shop and decided to buy some Chun pei mui - preserved plums. He left coins on the counter and offered Silvey some she rejected but Sunny left some for Silvey on the counter. See ya later, said Sunny then he left.
- Silvey, will you wait for me and marry me in the future?
- It was Silvey's first day at her new school, she had to change schools since her principal at her last school decided to retire and chose to close down the school. She loved her old school and Silvey felt heart broken when she found out the school was closing. Now it's her first day of school at Beresford Street School and she's walking into school with her best friend Judy Brown.
- When Silvey arrived back from chinese school she saw her ma talking to three Chinese-American soldiers that came the shop. They were introducing themselves and their names were Tom Lee, Wayne Fong and Harry Young. They said they were US Amry GIs off the 43rd New England Division. The American army has came to NZ to protect the chinese since the Japanese were in Australia meaning they were close. Silvey's ma invited them for dinner and they agreed to come, Silvey couldn't wait.
- Sunny came to Silvey's house, he thanked Silvey's ma and ba for everything they've done. Sunny and his father was leaving for Wanaganui in the morning even though his father can't walk far. Silvey, I'm going to really miss coming to see you, Silvey blushed but Sunny went on. One of these when you're old enough I want to marry you, will you wait for me Silvey? Silvey stared at him suprised and rejected him but then he said 'Just remember when you're older I asked you first.
- The soldiers came and had dinner with Silvey and her family after they ate they all had a very fun 'jam sesh'. They then had dessert which was steamed sponge cake and walnut biscuits. Silvey saw Wayne and Harry glance at Tom, Tom cleared his throat. Mr and Mrs Chan, we've gotten our call-up papers meaning this is the last time we'll see eachother. We wanted to thank you for making us feel like we're at home and hope that when this war is over you could come visit us someday.
