- Oswald comes and acts petty with Lear and his knights. Lear quickly gets furious and Kent noticed this. Kent helps punish Oswlad to prove his loyalty to Lear. The Fool enters and says to him "thou'lt/catch cold shortly" (Shakespear I.iv.97-98). The Fool says that you will be in difficulty soon for dividing his kingdom up.
- After fighting with his daughter Goneril, Lear decides to order Casius (disguised Kent) to deliver a letter to his daughter Regan and only let her know what is written in the letter nothing else. He says in the letter that he will now stay with Regan as Goneril doesn't tolerate him and his knights anymore. The Fool tells Lear that he has a feeling Regan will treat him the same way Goneril has.
