- One goal was to protect the Christians as they visited the Holy land of Palestine. They were usually allowed to visit Holy Places. But in the early 1000's poeple started destorying churches and killing pilgrims.
- RUN FOR YOUR LIFES!
- Farmers pause their work to listen to a distant roar. The farmers watched a mob of peasents lead by Peter the Hermit. Peter the Hermit was the one who had been calling Christians to join his fight to free Jerusalem. The farmers left their fields and became part of his army.
- Come join me, fight for freedom!
- King Luios VII of France and the German emperor organized the second Crusade. It was also organized with others including King Luois' wife Ealanor. Despite anything the second crusade failed.

- The second crusade was called the Crusade of the Kings. It was provoked by the fall of Jerusalem. It was called the Crusade of Kings because it was organized by the rulers of England, France, and Germany. Richard I was the leader of the crusade. Richard I was also called the Lion heart.
- Crusaders looted Constintineople in 1204. For three days they smashed Icons, stole relocs, and attacked women. The pope was furious. He told them they shouldn't have bathed their swords in the blood of Christians. The Byzantines never forgave the Cotholic church.
- Other targets for victims of religous persectution were heresies. Medieval Christians would not tolersate even minor differences in beleif.
