  • Travis needing 50 cents
  • "Thanks, Daddy."
  • "What you tell the boy things like that for? Here, son-"
  • "'Cause we don't have it."
  • Walter and Beneatha fighting
  • "Who the hell told you to be a doctor? If you go crazy 'bout messing 'round with sick people, then go be a nurse like other women. Or just get married and be quiet."
  • "well, you finally got it said... It took you three years but you finally got it said. Walter, give up; leave me alone. It's Mama's money.
  • Mama talking about not being business people
  • "Ain't nobody business people till they go into business. Walter Lee say color people ain't never going to start getting ahead till they start gambling on some different kinds of things in the world."
  • "We ain't no business people, Ruth. We are just plain working folks. What dont got into you girl? Walter Lee finally sold you on investing?"
  • The school wants Travis to bring 50 cents for 'Negros' without books. When he asks Ruth, she refused saying they don't got 50 cents. But when Walter walked into the room, he gave Travis 50 cents.
  • Mama slapping Ruth
  • "Mama, you don't understand. It's all a matter of ideas, and God is just one idea I don't accept. It's not important. I am not going out and be immoral or commit crimes because I don't believe in God."
  • "Now you say after me, in my mother's house there is still a god."
  • Walter and Beneatha fighting over Beneatha being a doctor, and how the money is Mama's and not Walters.
  • Asagai visits Beneatha
  • "Hello... Well come in. And please excuse everything. My mother was very upset about letting anyone come here with the place like this."
  • Ruth talks about how Walter keeps pushing about the money, and Mama tells Ruth that they not business people.
  • "Ten thousand dollars. Put it away somewhere, Ruth. Ten thousand dollars they give you. Ten thousand dollars."
  • Mama slapping Ruth when she explains why she doesn't believe in god. Which made mama angry and slapped her.
  • Asagai visits Beneatha and they talk.

  • Travis, Mama, Ruth is staring at the check. Mama doesn't believe she really got 10k and asked Travis to check. After he does, Ruth tells Travis to play outside while she and Mama chat.
  • "You go on out to play now, baby. You've gone and got yourself upset."
  • "yes'm ten thousand dollars. Gaalee, Grand mama, you rich."
